Choquequirao Trek 4 Days
Description:
On this adventure trek you will enjoy spectacular views of snow-capped mountains, descend into a deep canyon, cross the Apurimac River, and pass through biologically diverse cloud forest ecosystems. After a visit to the citadel of Choquequirao, you return along the same route, back to your hotel in Cusco. This is our most challenging trek to Choquequirao. It moves at a steady pace through the Andes and is recommended only for the most fit. It is designed for those who have limited time for a Choquequirao trek.

Itinerary – Choquequirao trek 4 days
Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Chikisca – Playa Rosalina
We pick you up very early at your hotel in Cusco and drive by private transport to the village of Cachora. In Cachora we meet our staff and drive 30 more minutes to the Capuliyoc lookout point and our trailhead. Our path continues downhill for about 6 hours to our campsite at Playa Rosalina beside the Apurimac River. This is one of the longest rivers in Peru, over 7000 km, coming from the very south of Peru all the way north to Iquitos where it joins with Amazon River. Apurimac is a Quechua word for “the God who speaks”. We can expect a warm night in the valley.
Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao
We leave camp early, cross the Apurimac River, and begin our uphill trek. 2 hours of hiking will bring us to Santa Rosa where we’ll have a rest, and after another 2 hours we will arrive at Marampata. Here we will have an early lunch while enjoying a spectacular view of the Andes. After a good break and rest, we continue walking 2 more hours to Choquequirao, an ancient city of the Incas. We will enjoy the afternoon exploring this magical city, and we can even explore unexcavated Inca building remains covered with vegetation. By early evening we head down to our campsite which is located just below Choquequirao.
Day 3: Choquequirao – Santa Rosa – Chikisca
Today, after a leisurely morning, we return to Marampata for lunch. Continuing back on the same path we came in, we once again cross the Apurimac River and climb to Chikisca where we will spend the night
Day 4: Chikisca – Capuliyoc – Cusco
It will take approximately 5 hours to climb uphill to the Capuliyoc lookout point where we began our trek. After lunch we will return to the city of Cusco.
